Lion Pose is a science-backed cosmeceutical skincare brand designed for people of color, hyper-targeted for hyperpigmentation. Its mission is to raise the bar for clinical testing by including more skin types, tones, and textures. Tasked with creating a foundational identity and impactful packaging, we helped Lion Pose compete in the Sephora Accelerate program, where they became finalists, debuted successfully at Sephora in July 2023, and partnered with their dream brand ambassador, Mindy Kaling.

The identity and packaging we crafted embody diversity, boldness, and unapologetic self-expression. Designed to elevate underrepresented skin tones, the striking bottle makes you feel powerful, fierce, and iconic. The vibrant orange color, accented with gold, symbolizes strength, luxury, and optimism, while the ergonomic bottle shape ensures a delightful user experience.

The ridged design adds a tactile, architectural element, symbolizing strength and movement while improving grip and usability. Made from recyclable materials, the airless, refillable packaging reflects Lion Pose's commitment to sustainability.

Rooted in contemporary architecture, the design pushes boundaries, making Lion Pose’s products distinctive in a crowded market. As the brand expands, its palette will incorporate more bold jewel tones, with the ridges serving as a unifying design element across all packaging.

At its heart, this story of transformation began with a little girl on a banana leaf. Now a Harvard Business School graduate, she and her cofounder are leading a bold, representative, and transformative movement in skincare. Like its founders, Lion Pose refuses to be ignored.

The ridges on the bottle add an iconic tactile element to the brand. As it relates to structural design, our ridges symbolize strength and stability. They direct the eye and create a sense of movement, giving the bottle a sense of flow and dynamism. In our design, we took notes from contemporary architecture, where the use of ridges can symbolize innovation and modernity. Similar to an architect, we used our ridges in creative ways to push the boundaries of traditional beauty packaging design. Our ridges also give the package a sense of depth that is inherent to the brand. And functionally, they make the bottle easier to grip—especially when your hands may be wet from washing your face prior to applying the product.
